A Woman who is Superstitious to the Core...

A Boy who claims his Parents are Dead...

A Murderer who wants to Silence the Truth of What Happened.

Olivia Westerly knows what she knows--opals mean disaster, eleven is the unluckiest number on earth and children weigh a woman down like a pocketful of stones. That's why she's avoided marriage for almost forty years. But when Charlie Doyle happened along, he was simply too wonderful to resist. Now she's a widow with an eleven-year-old boy claiming to be her grandson.

Winner of a Royal Palm Literary Award...Spare Change is a quirky mix of Southern flair, serious thoughts about the important things in life, the madcap adventures of a young boy and a late change of heart that makes all the difference in an unusually independent woman. More than anything, it is a heartwarming book which is simultaneously intriguing and just plain fun. Seattle Post Intelligence

Like a moth to a flame...Crosby deftly brings out Southern culture through the narrative voice and her use of language and imagery...reminiscent of John Grisham's The Client, with boy who is the only witness to his parent's murder. The Uncustomary Book Review

With a foul mouth, dark secrets and heavily guarded emotions, Ethan Allen Doyle is not an easy child to like. He was counting on the grandpa he'd never met for a place to hide, but now that plan is shot to blazes because the grandpa's dead too. He's got seven dollars and twenty-six cents, his mama's will for staying alive, and Dog. But none of those things are gonna help if Scooter Cobb finds him.

Sure to tug at your heartstrings...Jaxlane, NJ

Love, loss and unexpected gifts...Told from multiple points of view, this tale seeped from the pages and wrapped itself around my heart. Kimba, The Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Heartwarming story about a strong woman who learns life's greatest joys often come in the form of the very thing we reject.  Book Pleasures

Rapidly Unraveling Mystery, enjoyable storyline, lively dialogue. Every Character is well-defined and believable. Reader Views

A Brilliant, light-hearted read. Alle Wells, author, Railroad Man

Bette Lee Crosby has the unique ability to write characters who will absolutely melt your heart. Goodreads Reviewer, Sisterhood of the Traveling Book

A Feel-Good Must Read...The way SPARE CHANGE is written is so totally engrossing it was hard to put down. Turn your phone off; get yourself a big cup of hot chocolate, a soft comfy blanket and an overstuffed chair. I absolutely recommend this one. So, what are you waiting for? Michele Kerr, Goodreads reviewer

Only two people know the truth of what happened the night Ethan Allen's parents were murdered--the boy isn't talking and somebody wants to make sure he never does. The only one who can stop this from happening is Olivia.

In Spare Change, Crosby's characters and down home humor come together in a story of love, murder and mystery that takes readers on the delightful journey of a lifetime. Sunny Serafino, author, A Grandma for Christmas and Forgiven
Wonderfully written and so true to life... so well-written you feel as if you are reading an autobiography. Tamara, Scottsdale,

Fantastic characters and story flow... Even though this was a murder mystery, it was an emotional story filled with romance and friendship. Looking for more books by this author. Hollis Bookshelf

Wow. After I finished this book, I immediately called my mom and said, "You have to read this." You know some of the stupid books they forced you to read in school? To me, this is the kind of book that they should have let us read. It's a complete classic, but is interesting, heart warming, and amazing. It's the kind of book that reminds you why you read. Because you want to fall in love with characters. Characters who think they are one way, but through a series of events learn that they can be so much more than they ever thought.
