July 2012

Hey BBers!

Summer is booming! Everything seems bigger and louder this year... the weather, the fun, the books and to add to the excitement the Olympics are coming on July 27th to London. Be sure to check them out and support all of our amazing athletes and teams that work tirelessly to celebrate a gold medal on the podium. Just like authors who work tirelessly! So in honor of the work of the athletes and authors who both keep us entertained and amazed with their abilities, check out one of our Newbies to note this month with an Olympic spin -  Gold by Chris Cleave.

Calling All Book Clubs
September 1st - Mark Your Calendars

It is time to get your club organized before the heavy book club season starts in the Fall! With our continued efforts to make things better for our Clubies, we are streamlining a few things at BookBundlz. Changes will automatically go into effect, so don't worry about anything there, BUT...

Please make sure your invited (pending) book club peeps are registered members by September 1st! For as of September 1st, certain functionality will only include your registered book club members.

Why? We want to provide the best possible customer service and friendly fun experience. We can best do this by focusing on our members as we build up the benefits of BookBundlz.

Tips to get those stragglers signed up:

1. Resend
Resend your club invites through the "edit your club" page (where it shows who is still pending).

2. Dangle the carrot
At your next book club meeting... use your host's computer and get everyone on board (very easy, very quick)! We all know signed up members will make your life so much easier. When all else fails... try cupcakes! But don't let them eat them until they sign up. Remember, once all your clubies are signed up it will make organizing your book club a snap!

Literacy News:

Reading lovers are coming together to help us get books into the hands of kids who need them the most. Remember visiting Narnia, playing Jumanji, and eating Green Eggs and Ham? Books can have an incredible effect on children’s lives, yet there’s only one book for every 300 kids living in underserved communities in the U.S. So we’ve brought together some of our most beloved literary characters to help make this film and rally Book People for the cause.

Author's Corner:

Have you ever worked really hard on something, like writing a book, then you actually get it out there and then you instantly have the thought, "Holy crap! What am I thinking? What did I just do? Who would want to read what I have written anyway?" That is exactly where I found myself this week when I launched my book, Unscribbling: the art of problem solving and fulfilling your desires. Despite countless words of encouragement, that I will be forever grateful for, the self-doubt this week was creeping in like a freight train filled with Zombies coming to eat my brain!

The writing part (that I loved) is all done, but now the pressure is on to "make this a success" lest I look like a total jackass. But… what does that even look like? Success that is. Sales in the thousands? Speaking gigs? Fame? Money? Or is it, as people like to say, "If it touches one person, it's a success"?

Well... Click here to find out how to be a successful artist
