How To Start a Book Club
Created By: Nick
Step 1: Scrutinize your friends and loved ones to see if they are worthy enough to be in your club. Remember, if things go well you will be spending time and sharing you thoughts and feelings with these people. It is not advised to pick a big gossiper. You don't want your business all over town. It is also not advised to pick a crier with issues... unless you want to turn it into a support group. Occasional crying is allowed, but not ever week from the same person.
Step 2: Ask them if they are interested. If they look like they are trying to come up with an excuse, let them off the hook by telling them you really did not want them in your club anyway. That way you won't feel rejected and they won't have to admit that they have not read an entire book since high school when it was required and they still only read the cliff notes.
Step 3: Formulate the plan and the ground rules! i.e. no books over 300 pages, We meet the first Wednesday of ever month, how do you know who's house it will be at, who's picking the books, someone must bring chocolate, and who is bringing the wine?!! etc.
Step 4: Once you have your members in place (comings and goings will naturally occur) register with BookBundlz. The site was created around the club management tool. You can keep track of member's contact info, what you are reading, have read, what you have liked and no liked in the books, schedule and maybe even reschedule club nights. Oh, and it can be very helpful when trying to find your book pick (see rule 3).
Now some rules:
